The European Green Deal (EGD) is a roadmap of measures to transform the EU into an efficient, sustainable and competitive economy, defining the means of transforming Europe into the world’s first climate-neutral continent by 2050. The EGD will significantly impact Ukraine and all sectors of the state’s economy. While implementing EGD, the Ukrainian business will especially demand adaptation of business models, search for innovative solutions that will help “stay afloat” and significantly improve its competitiveness in the European market.
However, there is an issue of the “information asymmetry” on the Ukrainian market: market participants who have better access to information and advanced technologies will succeed faster. Due to the lack of knowledge of new technologies, startups, decarbonization opportunities, Ukrainian businesses risk losing opportunities and being left behind by European companies that are already adapting to the EGD requirements.
The Project will create new opportunities for Ukrainian businesses in decarbonization and change the paradigm of EGD perception from “threats” to “opportunities”.
For this purpose, the Project provides for three components that complement each other:
1. Research the best decarbonization technologies in terms of their effectiveness, cost, and simplicity of implementation.
2. “Mapping” of startups that already offer solutions in the field of decarbonization (within Ukraine and the EU).
3. “Matchmaking” – creating an online platform, holding Decarbonization Pitch Day, which will help Ukrainian startups and innovators obtain financing for their projects.
As a result, we will try to create and support an ecosystem of startups and innovative solutions in decarbonization in Ukraine.
This Project will:
– Show Ukrainian business new opportunities following the introduction of the EGD;
– Provide access to the broader application of decarbonization know-how in all spheres of the Ukrainian economy, particularly at the local level.
