The project “Mapping Opportunities for Communities” was implemented as part of the Democratic Governance in Eastern Ukraine program, which is implemented with support by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The program consisted of three stages:
- Training course “Grant Funding for Hromadas’ Projects – Development and Implementation”, which was successfully completed by 734 community representatives.
- Mentoring support for 15 selected communities in the preparation and submission of grant proposals.
- Development of a grant program portal.
The course was aimed at providing local government representatives with a unique opportunity to gain the necessary knowledge and skills for community development and reconstruction. Local authorities have great potential for development thanks to and in partnership with donor organizations. Our task is to ensure that Ukrainian communities use the opportunities provided by international and donor organizations, especially in the current environment.
The main topics of the trainings:
- Who are the grantors and why do they fund development projects?
- Search for sources of grant funding – donors, projects, calls.
- Effective work with project conditions and guidelines – life hacks and mistakes.
- Fundamentals of grantwriting. Components of a successful project proposal.
- Three levels of project results, logic matrices.
- Effective project proposal budget.
- PR component of the project.
- Tools for economic development.
- The key to long-term relationships with donors through effective communication and management.
In addition, two meetings were held with representatives of donor organizations: USAID and GIZ.
As a result of the training and mentoring parts of the project, 12 projects were submitted to grant competitions, and one has already received funding and is being implemented!
As part of the project, we have developed a convenient portal of current grant programs for communities, where you can find:
- Information about international donor organizations that are active in Ukraine and get acquainted with the areas of their activities.
- Current programs and grant opportunities that are relevant to local authorities.
